Coming Soon: MAX RM Release… Brand new Dashboard icons, and improvements to device onboarding and check-triggered tasks

We’re pleased to announce that we’re lining up the next significant update to MAX RM, in which we’ll be introducing a brand new set of Dashboard icons. The new, crisper icons are designed to convey key information more effectively, and give the Dashboard a considerable visual boost. Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store:

Better Onboarding with the Check Detection Scan (RC Agent)…
In addition to the new icons, there’s also an improvement to the onboarding process for servers and workstations that are added via a Site Installation Package. You can already use a Monitoring Template to specify which Checks and Tasks you want to automatically add to the new devices. Now, you’ll also be able to run the check detection scan as part of the onboarding sequence, so you can automatically add any applicable ‘standard checks’ to the devices.

Please note, this feature requires the new RC Agent v10.3.1.

1. To use the enhanced feature, go to the Settings dropdown menu and select Monitoring Templates  – you might notice we’ve updated the name of the feature from ‘Monitoring Installation Templates’ to ‘New Device Installation Settings’, so it’s a little more descriptive of its function.

2. To run the Check Detection Scan as you onboard new devices, simply tick the checkbox (2). If you select this option together with “Asset Tracking Only (no template)” it will effectively only add the checks from the Check Detection Scan.check sniff templates 2

Note that if a particular check’s already listed in the Template, it will pick the Template version.

Automate more with Check-triggered Tasks
The third feature improvement in this release centers around automation: We’re making it easier for you to automatically run a task when a particular check fails. This was already possible, but it’s now much simpler to set up and see which checks trigger which tasks. Here’s an overview of the improvements…

1. There’s a new ‘Assigned Tasks’ column on the checks tab, so you can see which task(s) a particular check will run when it fails (3). Click the task name to jump straight to the relevant task on the tasks tab.check triggered tasks 1

2. Similarly, there’s now an ‘Assigned Checks’ column on the tasks tab so you can see which checks the tasks are connected to (4).check triggered tasks 2

3. It’s also much easier to assign a task to a check. On the ‘Add Check’ and ‘Edit Check’ dialogs, you’ll see a new checkbox option to add a task to a check (5). Tick the box, and when you save the check, it will automatically open up the Add Task dialog, already preconfigured with the appropriate check details.check triggered tasks 3

Please note, a user will only be able to add a task this way if they have the relevant Automated Task permissions turned on in Roles & Permissions.

New GA Agent, with improvements to Patch Management and Managed Online Backup
We’re pleased to promote Agent v10.2.2 to GA with a series of feature updates and bug fixes. It means the new Patch Management rollback feature is now GA and can be rolled out across devices using the Agent Auto-update Settings dialog.

Furthermore, the agent update includes an upgrade to Managed Online Backup to use a newer version of MAX Backup – see previous release notes. We strongly recommend you keep up to date with the latest GA Agent versions, not least so you take advantage of the many improvements to Managed Online Backup. This includes a set of enhancements in MAX Backup v15, released earlier in the year, that ensure you’re better protected from certain strands of ransomware – please refer to this knowledge base article for more information. If you’re using Managed Online Backup it’s important to be using the latest Agent version to help safeguard the devices under management.

Keep the feedback coming…
We’re very excited about this release, and hope you’ll enjoy the crisper look & feel of the Dashboard with the new icons! As always, let us know what you think so we can keep improving the Dashboard with the enhancements that are most important to you.

NB: Please remember to refresh your browser following this release. It’s possible local browser caching can cause a temporary display issue with the new icons.
