We’re pleased to confirm this week’s update to MSP Remote Monitoring & Management is now available in the first set of territories, containing a set of customer service improvements.
The release is live in the Asia Pacific region and in selected European territories. The rest of the territories, including the US, UK, Benelux, Germany, France and the Nordic countries will follow in the next few days.
In addition, we’re working on a security-related update to the User Accounts dialog. Up until now it’s possible for a user to set a password for another user. We’ll be updating this so that only the user in question can know his or her password. It means the “Set Password” option will no longer be available:
Instead, you’ll see a new option to ‘Reset Password Now’. This can be used in the event you believe a user’s credentials have been compromised and you want to change the password there and then. When clicked, the selected user will receive an email with a link to reset their password, adding email verification to the reset process.
The existing option, ‘Reset Password’ has been renamed to ‘Reset Password Next Login’ and retains the same functionality. You can use this to enforce password recycle policies. The next time the user in question logs in they’ll be asked to set a new password after entering their existing one. There’s no additional email verification in this step.
When adding a new user, instead of the administrator setting a password, the user will automatically receive (brand-neutral) email with a link that allows them to set their own password. We’ve updated the dialog with a new info text that appears when clicking “Add User” to make the process a little clearer:
We will update you when this security enhancement goes live in a few weeks’ time.
