N-able RMM: Remote Access for Network Devices, Automation Manager and Patch Management Engine Upgrades

Remote Access for Network Devices

Today we are very excited to announce a brand new feature in RMM: For the first time, you’ll be able to remotely connect to the network devices you manage over an SSH connection. It means you’re able to proactively manage and update network devices directly from the RMM console.

There’s no additional charge for this feature, and it can be used for any managed network device, provided it is set up to offer SSH connectivity. The release is now rolling out across the territories and expected to be available to everyone by the middle of next week.

Here’s how you you’ll be able to access this brand new function:

On the Network Devices tab, look for the new Remote Control option above the device grid. Click this to select SSH…

After you authenticate and pass in the custom SSH port (if required), the SSH Session will launch:

Note that this is a fully managed connection. There are no downloads required. Each SSH session is handled as a new browser tab, allowing for multiple connections to as many devices as you need!

All remote access sessions will be logged in the User Audit Report so you have that important paper trail. We’ll confirm in a follow-up post once it’s out in all territories – please start using at your convenience and share any feedback you have with us!

Automation Manager v2.18

We’re pleased to let you know that the latest Automation Manager app (v2.18) for creating custom scripts for Checks and Tasks now comes with a whole range of additional Meraki objects. It means you’re able to create bespoke, advanced monitoring and maintenance routines for your Meraki devices, using Automation Manager’s unique drag-&-drop interface to compile your scripts. Here’s the list of new Meraki objects at your disposal:

UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get SNMP Configuration’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Site to Site VPNs’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Security Events’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Performance Score’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Organizations’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Networks’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Devices’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Connected Clients’
UPDATE: New Meraki object – ‘Get Admin Accounts’

Patch Management Engine v1.3.1

The latest Patch Management Engine (v1.3.1) is automatically deployed to online devices when they perform a Patch Management routine. The new version contains an improvement to how the system assesses when a reboot is required: Previously, PME would sometimes report a patch requiring a reboot when it actually had not yet installed successfully. This is now resolved, so that it will correctly highlight the patch installation failed, instead of masking this status with a reboot required message.

Important Reminder Regarding Agent Digital Certificate

As communicated previously, you may be required to take action to ensure devices successfully update to use the new digital certificate, before the current digital certificate is revoked on March 8. Please ensure that devices are online and check into the RMM Dashboard before the revocation date, so that installed services such as Patch Management can upgrade to the new digital certificate. We also strongly recommend that you update the Windows RMM agent to the latest GA version (v10.9.17), so that devices that are not able to connect to the RMM Dashboard during this time will automatically update to the new digital certificate when they come back online.
